Systems we install
Electric radiant systems: loose cable set into an uncoupling membrane, pre-spaced heating mats, and membrane systems that combine crack isolation and heat in a single layer. For most residential tile floors this is the right technology, both for cost and for retrofit into an existing room.
Every system pairs with a programmable or Wi-Fi thermostat with a floor sensor, so the floor is warm when you actually use the room instead of running all day.
Why the install method matters
Heating cable is tested with a megohmmeter before it goes down, again after it is fastened, and again after the tile is set. Those three readings are recorded. If a cable is nicked, we know before it is under a finished floor rather than a season later.
Cable spacing is planned against the room, not eyeballed: consistent spacing under open floor, no cable under vanities, tubs or toilet flanges, and the floor sensor run in a conduit loop so it can be replaced without breaking tile.
Planning it into the project
Heat adds height. A membrane system typically adds around a quarter inch before tile, which affects door clearances, thresholds and transitions to adjoining rooms, so it gets designed in at the estimate stage rather than discovered on install day.
The electrical side needs a dedicated circuit and, in most jurisdictions, GFCI protection at the thermostat. We coordinate that with your electrician so the rough-in is ready when the floor is.
