So why us, and not the other guy?

Honestly? Finding a tiler who shows up, does it right, and treats your bathroom like their own is harder than it should be. That is the whole reason MCode exists. We are owner-operated, so there is no rotating crew and no job handed off to whoever happened to be free that week. We have been setting tile since 2006, and we treat every shower, floor and tub surround as if it were going into our own home. We do it right the first and only time, we keep the space clean, and we keep you up-to-date with everything so you do not have to be worried about anything.
Here's what your bathroom gets
- Demo, waterproofing, layout, tile and daily cleanup
- Shower pan flood-tested a full 24 hours before any tile
- Help choosing tile, grout and layout so it looks designed
- A written estimate and straight pricing before we start
- Every tile installed by a 20-year licensed professional
- 63 five-star reviews behind every bathroom we take

01Walk-In Showers+
The job that has to be watertight.
A shower gets soaked every single day, so the real work happens behind the tile, where you never see it. First we seal the walls and floor so water cannot get into them. Then we slope the floor so every drop runs to the drain, and we shape the little built-in shelf, the niche, so water rolls off it instead of pooling. Before any tile goes on, we plug the drain, fill the base with water, and let it sit a full 24 hours to prove it does not leak. In a lot of DC row houses that shower sits on the second floor over a finished room, so for us that test is not optional. Get that part right and the good-looking part lasts for years.
02Tub and Shower Surrounds+
Around the tub, sealed and square.
This is the tile that wraps the walls around your tub or shower. Subway, marble, big modern format, or a stripe of accent tile, all mapped out before anything is glued down so the pattern lines up and the awkward cut pieces end up in the corners nobody looks at. The main thing homeowners never think about: we make sure there are no hollow gaps behind the tile, because a hollow spot is exactly where water finds its way in.
03Bathroom Floor Tile+
A floor that shrugs off water.
A bathroom floor gets splashed, so it needs the right tile sitting on a solid base. We usually reach for porcelain because it barely drinks any water, so puddles and steam do not bother it. Underneath, we add a flexible layer that lets the floor shift a hair as the seasons change, instead of cracking a grout line. That layer earns its keep in an older Capitol Hill or Petworth house, where the floor below is rarely as flat as anyone would like. And if you want warm tile underfoot on a cold morning, we can run heat under it while the floor is open.
04Waterproofing and Prep+
The part you never see doing all the work.
Here is what most people do not know: showers almost never fail at the tile. They fail behind it, when a rushed waterproofing job lets water sneak into the wall for years before anyone notices. We seal the whole wet area properly, every corner and every shelf, to a bonded membrane rated ANSI A118.10, then water-test it before we tile. It is the least exciting part of the job and the one that decides whether your ceiling stays dry down the road.
05Bathroom Tile Repair and Regrout+
Fix the leak, not the whole bathroom.
Not every bathroom needs to be torn out, and we will tell you straight if yours does not. Cracked or loose tile swapped and matched to what you have, crumbling grout dug out and replaced, and, most importantly, we track down why it happened so it does not come back next winter. Sometimes the honest answer saves you a whole renovation.
Bathrooms we have actually finished.
Walk-in showers, tub surrounds, floors and waterproofing from around the DMV. Every one waterproofed and flood-tested before a single tile went up.

Nick was absolutely wonderful to work with! We are passionate DIY-ers and when we needed to outsource professional help for our large format tile shower installation, we were beyond grateful to have Nick’s expertise! They say “no one will care for your home more than you do” which is a motive that fuels are DIY projects, but Nick was so efficient with time and resources, showed thoughtful care, trusted professionalism, and kind expertise and responsiveness that will certainly have us hire him again and refer him to anyone looking for a tile professional.
Nick was awesome to work with! He worked lots of hours, saved us a couple of days, and everything came out looking perfect. Very happy with everything he did.
I have great experience working with Mr Nick at MCode LLC, he has exceeded my expectation for his workmanship in installing my master bathroom tile floor. I would highly recommended Mr Nick in any home improvement projects
I had a leaking shower pan that leaked to the basement. Nick came and fixed everything perfectly. He was meticulous in his job and I would recommend him highly for bathroom remodeling. He also repaired drywall and painted. I would hire him again.
We had an issue with our shower leaking, and had to replace our entire shower floor and ceramic tile walls. His price was fair, he explained throughout the process, and he did a phenomenal job. Our shower looks beautiful, and everything was left pristine. We highly recommend, and will use him for other projects in future!
Nick did an excellent job! He arrived on time, was highly responsive, and was very pleasant to work with! I needed last minute help with very large format tiles 2' x 6' and he was able to figure out how to successfully mount them even though there was a limited quantity. The grout lines and spacing ended up very well matched up, and I am very happy with the quality of work. Highly recommend Nick!
Nick did a fantastic job re-grouting my bathroom floor. Prior to his work, it was cracked with heavy amounts of debris falling out daily. It looks brand new now. Highly recommended Nick for any handyman needs!
Nick just tiled our second bathroom. The job included floor tile, wall tile around a tub, and building and tiling a walk-in shower. He responded quickly with a quote that was very reasonable. Nick's quote was also very detailed - it listed everything we would provide and everything he would provide. The detail showed us he'd thought through how the shower would be built and we were comfortable with his approach. He asked questions when needed but otherwise worked very independently. Nick is a trustworthy guy and the tile looks beautiful. It was done exactly on schedule. Nick started a little late in the morning and worked late in the evening, which was fine with us. We would happily hire him again and have already recommended him to friends.
Nick was awesome ! He did an excellent job fixing some caved in tile I had from a fall in the shower. He was professional and quoted me fairly. The job was done in a timely manner and I can’t thank him enough.
